This is the Pats 9.21.2014 Game Thread. There are many games threads like it. This one is mine.

Pats 47-13
Jimmy G makes his debut.
Line opened up Patriots -15
Now that Mankins is gone, is TB the only player who was in the game the last time (9/08/2005) the Raiders visited the Razor?
http://www.footballdb.com/games/boxscore.html?gid=2005090801
No….Vince Wilfork was in his 2nd season.
Brady and Vinatieri are the only players from the “Tuck Rule” squad who remain in the NFL. Seymour, who retired in 2012, is third-to-last.
I think the odds of the Raiders winning the game are better than Tom coming out of it, regardless of the score.
Between Bill/Tom’s proclivity to keep Brady in the games that have long been decided and the need to give him as many reps as possible with the still struggling offense, I don’t think Jimmy G makes his debut this Sunday.
And I hope I’m wrong.
I think the X factor here is Stork. Brady and Stork were able to get 12 snaps together at the end of the Minnesota game, which is likely more valuable than getting Garoppolo reps.
I agree that Brady and Stork getting reps is important, but even without Stork in the equation, Brady rarely comes out of blow outs.
My eyes are reading this correctly, but my brain cannot seem to correctly process this information:
“the Patriots lead the NFL with 263 penalty yards assessed against them. The Raiders have the fewest penalty yards assessed against them, 44“
Does not compute
Charles Woodson on Tuck Rule game: ‘Brady owes me his house’
“If they make the correct call — which they did at first, then they overturned it — this (10)-game playoff streak that Tom Brady has? It never happened. Tom Brady owes me his house. I’m the reason why he’s married to who he’s married to. I’m a reason for a lot of that. Everything. Because they overturned that call.”

So Woodson and Janikowski return to the scene of the Crime some 12 plus years later.
It doesn’t need to. A market correction is coming this Sunday.
Raiders face NE at NE, then head to London to play Miami. If the Raiders get embarrassed the next two weeks, Dennis Allen likely will be fired. The fans out here are apoplectic that the Raiders appear to have gotten appreciably worse since last year, which many thought was impossible.
I propose that losing this game would be the most embarrassing loss in NE franchise history. Anyone disagree?
Losing to the Jets in the division playoffs after blowing them out late in the regular season 45-3 was pretty embarrassing.
The failure to win game 19 was, too. I know the Giants were good and came to play that day, but damn…especially in light of Brady’s brash — by Patriots standards — comments about not being held to under 20 points (or something along those lines).
Why am I going here?
Thankfully, I don’t see this game being added to the list. The Pats rarely, if ever, lose to a team they are supposed to house.
Too soon to tell. Maybe the Pats aren’t really much better than mediocre and maybe the Raiders aren’t as bad as we think.
It was a road game, but in terms of matchups of very good Patriot teams and very bad opponents, the Miami game in 2004 (Pats were 12-1 finished 14-2, Miami was 2-11 and finished 4-12) always comes immediately to mind. At the time the Pats very much needed the game in the race with the Steelers for HFA, although it ended up not mattering since the Steelers finished 15-1 and beat the Pats head to head. I was pissed beyond words after that Dolphin game.
Anyway, I love nothing more than the 1pm Sunday start from a game experience/tailgaiting perspective. Can’t wait for Sunday.
When Brady’s finished with him this weekend, Woodson will forever remember this Sunday’s contest as the “Oh Fuck” Rule Game.
Yeah, I’m sure Brady would’ve been a complete chump if not for that call. Even if we were to assume that’s true, why is Charles Woodson, the guy who caused the fumble, “the reason” for anything? Shouldn’t he be referring to Walt Coleman? Even with the call being reversed, the Raiders have no one to blame but themselves for squandering a 10 point lead in a snowstorm with 5 minutes to go. It happened 12 years ago, should we still be crying about Ben Dreith and Jack fucking Tatum? Get over it.
Uh, no. Like not even close. The game that got the Pats banned from MNF for more than decade, the Bear mauling in 86, any game of the Dick McPherson Era, any game of the Rod Rust Era, any game featuring Scott Secules, the Pittsburgh fog game…I am not being being a jerk when I ask: how old are you?
Every single game of this golden age is a treasure. This franchise was THE fucking joke of the NFL for a long, long time. Take the reincarnated Browns, mix in some Detroit from about five years ago, add in the literal circus sideshow and top it off with our pioneering role in kick starting the NFL’s problem with women and you get the Patriots before Kraft/Parcells/Belichick.
Losing to Oakland in September, no matter how bad Oakland is, wouldn’t make my list of top 25 embarrassing losses.
All true. All we were missing was the paper bags over the heads of the New Orleans Ain’ts fans.
The only way for Jimmy to make his debut is for Brady to be hurt. I don’t get why people don’t get this. You don’t want to see Jimmy in a regular season game until Brady isn’t on the roster.
Yeah but the thing about the Pats back then and the Browns/Lions/Raiders etc is that when your team is that bad for that long there’s really not a lot of shame after a while. It’s just sort of expected that they’re going to go out and get embarrassed every Sunday so it stops being embarrassing. Maybe a better way of putting it is that the shame becomes built-in to the viewing experience. Ask an Eagles fan.
The point I’m making here is that when there’s nothing to be proud of there’s not as much to be embarrassed by, I would absolutely consider a loss on Sunday to be one of the franchise’s more embarrassing losses.
The embarrassing loss list is too embarrassing to relive if you saw Patriots football from 1965-1993 (with some respite (1976, 1985), but not much). The last NFL game I saw live was a snoozer in Anaheim Stadium vs. the Rams. A poor 14-0 showing with 4 picks Hugh Millen at the controls. The one I saw prior to that was a loss to the Jets on 10/12/86. The good news was that I saw Hendu perform his magic on a television in the “parking lot” on that day of forbearance.
This is not actually true. Ryan Mallett appeared in four games in 2012. He came on in the 4th quarter with the Patriots leading by an average of 34 points. So it has to be a huge blowout for Jimmy to get a shot. Last season Mallett did not appear at all because there were never any 30+ point blowouts.
Think that 14-0 abortion was opposite a Buffalo-SF game of the year that featured no punts broadcast everywhere but New England, so yeah, good times.
Question why the bolded is on there, you are talking about the 28-3 playoff win that (IIRC) was the first playoff win in franchise history right? If so, that game was pretty awesome.
Jerod Mayo did not practice today, but Jaime Collins was back on the field.
I’m guessing he got the games confused and meant the 7-6 game where they stuffed Kordell on 4th and goal from the one inch line, drove down the field onto the border of FG position, and then Bledsoe got strip-sacked by Vrabel. That game was awful.
The only 2 players to spend last 15 years w same team will be in same stadium Sunday: T. Brady & S. Janikowski, taken 182 picks before Brady
The old comedian’s line “I got a million of ’em”, well, there are probably just as many weirdities about the draft Brady was in.
My personal favorite was a 6-0 loss to Indianapolis during the 2-14 1992 season (not to be confused with the 1-15 season a few years prior).
That game may have been the most depressing and pathetic display of football ever at the professional level.
Looked it up, this was amazing:

Let’s get this talk of poor games out of here.
Best game? Tuck Rule game. Fuck you Raiders.
Can’t seem to find any news about our suspended players.
Are they reinstated for this game?
Oh I was there for that one, security guards let friends and family in for free accounting for about 60 percent of the crowd. Crowd chanted for Zolak then he came in and was terrible. Highlight of the game was one of the field goals hitting a crossbar or upright. At least it was cold and miserable out.
6-20 for 55 yards is not good? At least he didn’t throw a pick.
Mike Reiss said in his chat today they weren’t being reinstated.
For everybody’s viewing pleasure.
It’s fitting that the Raiders have a player this year when they play at New England with the last name of Tuck.
And that Charles Woodson is back on the Raiders.
Few things bring me more enjoyment than this video. I watch it often and it always makes me smile. The correct call and just retribution for the crime committed against the 1976 Patriots by Ben Dreith.
Weather will be around 80 on Sunday. I wonder if they will put the Raiders in black.
Good looks Ed. That is the one. For some reason I remember fog but I also remember being extremely drunk and sad at the end, so maybe it was just me. 😉
Raiders fans never seem to notice that woodson hits brady in the head, i.e. roughing the passer.
They played Pitt in the fog the year before in the playoffs, so not surprising they run together. The 7-6 game sucked, but I felt pretty good about the future coming out of that game. Only two moments that season that really bothered me were Bledsoe chucking the bye away to a 280 pound defensive lineman and having second and goal from the one foot line against the Packers and throwing three straight incompletions instead of just running the ball a foot then giving up a 99 yard drive right after. Team hasn’t been embarassing since Kraft bought it outside of some of the Parcells soap opera IMHO.
The karmic justice of the Tuck Rule being the ying to the Ben Dreith Screw job yang 25 years later remains a pleasant thought.
(That said, Ben Dreith should suffer for eternity and beyond.)
BB being in such a chipper mood and giving extended treatises at presser all week has me thinking about laying 14.

This is just me testing something (from football central)
I have a huge favor to ask a few lucky regular game threaders…. can you try to follow the game via the comments section of the Football Central article? We’re really trying to work out the kinks and no matter how we try a lot of the testing that we need to do needs to occur under heavy load (hey now).
Nip wants your heavy load, people. Why won’t you share your heavy load?

Raiders radio call of the Tuck Rule.
Trying to decide whether to watch at a bar (NYC) or from my computer. So two related questions:
1. Any NYC SoSHers watching at a bar today?
2. Anyone have a magic link for today’s game?
Vereen questionable with shoulder injury but expected to play. Via Schefter Twitter.
I am not but my unsolicited opinion is that Prof Thom’s beat the hell out of watching the Pats from a computer. The two experiences I had watching Pats games there were extremely enjoyable.
Dobson inactive, per NFLN.
Dobson, D Jones, Wendell, white, Kline, Dennard, Moore are all inactive
Dennard, Dobson, Kline, Wendell all inactive.
Not a huge deal, but Schaub had an emergency, and even though he traveled with team he’s not available. Matt McGloin is the backup today.
Wow, Dobson ~ officially on the “this isn’t working out” watch list, now?
Going to run the ball a ton today? Looking for LaFell’s blocking?
It’s certainly disappointing so far this year. He’s their only hope of not having a JAG outside and a pretty disappointing haul for the draft capital spent at wideout. Hopefully still not in shape,
Sio Moore is out, so Oakland is going with two backups and a rookie LB. So their depleted run D is a bit weaker this morning. New England will be running and working underneath again today I expect.
TWC outage is saving me from listening to any more Goodell/Rice/AP crap.
Would prefer to watch this on the big screen and not some shitty internet stream.
Same o line as last week in warmups. Defense was lined up in 3-4 with Jones at end. Don’t like that.
He played a handful of snaps there last week, hopefully same plan where he’s going to move around a lot.
“@BenVolin: Jonathan Kraft said Mark Davis came up to his office this morning, looked at SB 36 trophy and said, “You know that’s ours, right?””
I’m trying to think of another team that has held a grudge like that before towards another team…
Jonathan Kraft should have asked Davis, where’s the Raider SB trophy from ’76, at your office or at Ben Dreith’s house?
Defend the blade. Win…
Leave it to the Raiders to overlook the fact that the trophy was not presented that day.
VIP stream working well so far…

And the fact that the game didn’t end after that call was made. They had their chance and shit the bed.
Greg Gumbel and cast not favorites but much better than Raiders announcer Greg Papa.
I’m going to help Nip by giving him my load. Nice boot by the Gost.
Celtics Boston
The tight ends were successful last week early too.
Celtics! Boston!
The incomparable KYLE ARRINGTON!
Nice stop. Let’s kill em.
Stout D.
Good press from Arrington to disrupt that route from the get go
Kyle Arrington making plays.
Amazing what happens when he isn’t forced into a role as one of the top two corners.
The play call is going to be Manchester United next week in London? Really Greg? C’mon.
I’m so psyched to look for that counter today.
